BEIJING (Reuters) – China’s armed force said on Wednesday the current U.S. navy sailing near Chinese-claimed Taiwan was “extremely harmful” and stimulating such trouble remained in neither country’s interests.
The U.S. guided-missile destroyer USS Mustin sailed through the narrow and sensitive Taiwan Strait on Tuesday, the U.S. navy said, in what have ended up being reasonably routine trips in current months, though they constantly anger China.
The Eastern Theatre Command of China’s People’s Freedom Army said its air and marine forces followed and monitored the U.S. ship throughout its trip.
” Any words or deeds that … trigger problem in the Taiwan Strait are not in line with the fundamental interests of China and the United States, damage the well-being of compatriots on both sides of the strait, posture genuine threats to peace and stability in the area and are very harmful”, it said.
Chinese forces will remain on high alert at all times to safeguard China’s sovereignty and territorial stability, it included.
Taiwan’s defence ministry said the U.S. ship was on an “regular objective” and travelled through the Taiwan Strait in a southerly instructions.
The cruising comes a week after U.S. Health Secretary Alex Azar went to Taiwan, the greatest level U.S. authorities to take a trip to the island since Washington broke off diplomatic ties with Taipei in favour of Beijing in1979
China reacted by sending out fighter jets near to Taiwan.
