All NFL players and coaches associated with Sunday video games passed tests for COVID-19 and “need to be excellent to go,” pending a health check upon arrival at stadiums, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport tweeted.

The news came days after The Washington Post published an op-ed penned by commissioner Roger Goodell and Dr. Allen Sills, the league’s primary medical officer, that talked about starting the season amid the coronavirus pandemic.

” We have dealt with players, groups and medical specialists to develop a thorough game plan. Our hope is that transparency about our operations will contribute knowledge and insights that will assist the country’s pandemic reaction,” they wrote in the piece, which appeared Thursday before the NFL’s very first game of the season.

Still, the acknowledged they do not anticipate smooth cruising.

” We also understand that effort alone can not control the virus or its impacts,” the op-ed read. “There will be speed bumps and maybe detours along the method. The NFL is not any more immune to the infection than are our coworkers in other sports or the rest of society. This will be tough. However simply as the league survived a pandemic obstacle (1918 Spanish Influenza) at its inception, our company believe that we have the right steps in place as we start a second century of football.”
